I began having knee pain one day. My sister was also having severe knee pain and recommended Boswellia. She told me that her knee pain greatly improved after taking Boswellia for 1 month or ao. So I did some research and began taking Boswellia. I felt significant improvement in my knee pain after a few weeks, actually to almost none. Also, my mother's friend(79 years old) was having pain in her knee, could barely walk and was getting injections to her knee. I put her on Boswellia a month ago. Now, she tells me she was able to stretch the durations between injections longer, meaning she gets injections less frequently now. In her case, with age and leaving it unattended too long, she would ultimately need a knee replacement surgery because her cartilage in the knee is worn out. Boswellia definetly helped several people.
Boswellia resins, also known as frankincense, are obtained from Boswellia trees. Incisions are made in the trunks of the trees to produce gum, milk like resin, that hardens into resin. It is often burned for aromatic purposes in churches or used in medical applications. Frankincense was one of the three gifts, frankincense, gold and myrrh, given to a new-born Jesus by three Kings.
Boswellia serrata offers many benefits such as reducing inflammation and helping treat conditions like osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and inflammatory bowel disease. It's also a painkiller, and can help inhibit cartilage loss. Boswellia can also be used to alleviate asthma.
Four acids are present in Boswellia and inhibit 5-Lipoxygenase, an enzyme that produces leukotriene. Leukotrienes are identified as a cause of inflammation and may trigger asthma symptoms (The four acids are pentacyclic and boswellic triterpenic acids Acetyl-11-keto-β-boswellic acid (AKBA)). Leukotrienes are enzymes that are known to promote degenerative, inflammation-related diseases including joint problems, intestinal disorders, cancer, and lung related disease.
A double blind, placebo-controlled, randomized study, researchers divided 75 participants into three groups. The first group received 100 mg of 5-Loxin (a trademarked Boswellia serrata extract) for 90 days. The second group received 250 mg of 5-Loxin, and the third group received a placebo.
At the end of the 90 days, researchers found that both dosages of the 5-Loxin conferred clinical as well as statistically significant improvements in pain and physical function. The main difference was that those taking the 250 mg dosage felt relief within seven days.
Researchers also found that those taking the Boswellia (at either dosage) had a reduction in matrix metalloproteinase-3. This is a good sign, as this compound breaks down connective tissues, including collagen. By reducing it, you reduce pain and improve knee function.

Additionally, it appears that Boswellia prevents the breakdown of connective tissues caused by tumor necrosis factor-alpha, a potent inflammatory agent in the body. (* Once you wear out cartilage, you can't grow it back. So, prevention is very important!(
And finally, Boswellia appears to have the ability to modulate the immune system and inhibit inflammatory activity, thereby helping with a number of autoimmune conditions, including rheumatoid arthritis.
To put it in simpler terms, the acids in Boswellia seem to have the ability to suppress the proliferating tissue found in inflamed areas of the body and prevent the concomitant breakdown of connective tissues. Proliferative inflammation is an inflammatory reaction in which the distinguishing feature is an actual increase in the number of reticuloendothelial macrophages—thus continuing the inflammatory response and the breakdown of healthy tissue.
In addition, Boswellia has been found to improve blood supply to the joints and restore the integrity of weakened blood vessels, with no side effects as seen with the traditional drugs by prescription.
I want to emphasize 'little side effects' compared to Humira, etc.
Dosage: Take 600 to 900 milligrams of boswellia standardized to contain 60 to 65 % boswellic acid, the herb's active ingredient, as a general dosage.
Take 300 milligrams of boswellia in capsule form up to three times per day for treating arthritis, asthma, chronic pain, Crohn's disease and sports injuries.
