Step Up held a delightful salon evening of fashion, cocktails, career advice & inspirational speech at Rag & Bone’s flagship store in SoHo in New York City on March 21, 2017.   Step Up Salon is typically hosted at a retail sponsor to give its members the chance to shop to benefit the organization’s programs and to connect women and members.  Guests enjoyed an evening out with champagne, sushi, shopping for the latest fashion by Rag & Bone and book signing by a celebrity author, Nicole Lapin.

While guests mingle, enjoy cocktail and shop, Judith Powel, Managing Director of Step Up, gave a brief introduction on the organization’s mission to inspire and empower young girls, followed by an inspirational speech by a member & role model, Nicole Lapin.  Nicole Lapin is the author of New York Times bestseller Rich Bitch and the star of the nationally syndicated business competition reality show Hatched and also was the youngest anchor at CNN & CNBC.

Her speech was inspiring and yet candid and humble. It carried a message to the audience to pursue your dreams and potential in life.   She also shared a painful personal history of her father dying of drug overdose when she was only 11 years old demonstrating a real-life example for;  One with a humble background can overcome adverse circumstances and succeed in life.

Step Up provides after-school programs to girls in Step Up partner high schools to educate and encourage them to be confident, college-bound and career-focused.  It also provides mentorship connecting girls with successful career women, college & work-place tours, various events to inspire and support young girls in their development stage in their life and career.  Sometimes, just one encouraging word, support and inspiration is what we all need to make all the difference in how we shape up in our lives.  For this reason alone, I personally applaud Step Up’s mission and endeavors.

Its corporate partners include Coach, Benefit, AT&T, etc., also joining to support Step Up’s programs and cause.  Coach’s foundation pledged $ 3 million to enable Step Up to grow to new cities tripling the numbers of teens who they can reach within 3 years. Some of the Step Up ambassadors are Garcelle Beauvais, Amy Brenneman, Anna Chlumsky, Amanda Crew, Nicole Lapin, Stacy London, Jeannie Mai, Louise Roe, Veronica Webb, etc.  Its celebrity supporters include Jessica Alba, Khandi Alexander, Tatyana Ali, Danni Allen, Ashanti, Elizabeth Banks, Annette Bening, Julie Bowen and many more.
